Greece Passport

The Greece passport (Ελληνικό Διαβατήριο) is a biometric travel document issued to Greek citizens by the Hellenic Police. It confirms the holder’s nationality and identity, allowing for international travel and granting full rights within the European Union. Greek passport holders enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 190 countries, placing the passport among the top-ranking globally.

Who Can Apply

To apply for a Greek passport, you must:

• Be a Greek citizen (by birth, descent, or naturalization)
• Possess a valid Greek ID card (tautotita)
• Be registered in a Greek municipal registry

Applicants can be adults or minors. The application must be made in person at a passport office in Greece or at a Greek embassy/consulate abroad.

Required Documents

For adult applicants:

• Valid Greek ID card
• Two biometric passport photos
• Proof of Greek citizenship or family status (may be retrieved electronically)
• Payment receipt for the application fee
• Completed application form (provided on-site)

Fees in 2025:

• Adults (10-year validity): €84.40
• Minors (5-year validity): €73.60

Passport for Minors

Applications for minors require:

• Presence of both parents (or legal authorization)
• Child’s Greek birth certificate
• Parental ID cards
• Application fee and biometric photos

Passports for children are valid for 5 years.

Application Process

1. Visit the appropriate passport office or Greek consulate.
2. Submit all required documents and photos.
3. Pay the issuance fee.
4. Await processing (5–10 business days in Greece, longer abroad).
5. Collect the passport in person or via authorized representative (if applicable).

There is no online application option, and no true “renewal”—a new passport must be issued each time.

Lost or Stolen Passport

In the event of loss or theft:

1. File a police report.
2. Obtain official documentation of the loss.
3. Apply for a replacement with your Greek ID and new photos.
4. Pay the fee as for a new passport.

Passport from Abroad

Greek citizens abroad can apply at the nearest Greek consulate. While the process is similar, extra time is usually needed for verification and shipping. Processing times can range from 2 to 6 weeks.

A valid Greek passport allows:
